Over 50 years ago, I entered the energy industry as a salesman in the natural gas industry. What I learned in those early years was the importance of safety, reliability, energy efficiency and service. It was ingrained in us since homeowners didn’t have to have natural gas, we had to be the best and most reliable energy source. Little did I realize at the time how those principles would continue to guide and provide a solid foundation for GenSpring Power. As we enter our 20th year, the energy market continues to evolve with innovative energy solutions to help homeowners keep the lights on.
One of those emerging innovative solutions is energy storage. Initially we were leery of energy storage as numerous companies rushed to acquire market share to capitalize on the interest in solar power. With so many options and promises of free energy, it’s fair to say that it can be challenging for the average consumer to sort out what’s real. As discussed in my
earlier post,
Briggs & Stratton did the hard work for us when they performed their due diligence and purchased
SimpliPhi – a provider of innovative, safe and reliable energy storage systems. Why is this important? We’ve been a partner with Briggs & Stratton since the beginning – they have never let us down.
Living in the Jasper mountains, we rely on a finite source of propane fuel for heating, water heating, cooking, etc. Also, propane is getting more expensive, just like every other petroleum-based product. Based on the successful testing of our
East Cobb installation, I’ve moved ahead with our second SimpliPhi installation. My initial goal was to supplement our Briggs & Stratton generator with energy storage. Based on my analysis and the success of our East Cobb testing, we expect to be able to run on battery power for approximately 8 hours during a power outage and never have the generator cycle on. If the power outage continues past that time, our SimpliPhi will automatically start the generator, serving the needs of our home while recharging the batteries. Once the batteries are charged, the generator will cycle off and the batteries will continue to power our home. Additionally, it is likely at night when power usage is lower that our SimpliPhi system will meet our needs throughout the night with silent power. Depending on the duration of the power outage, our SimpliPhi system will not only save on propane costs, but also preserve energy to keep our home warm and comfortable in the event of an extended outage or propane fuel shortage.
Other features of SimpliPhi include seamless instant transfer of 4 to 8 milliseconds, hardly a blink of the lights, a strong 10-year warranty, and solar capability now or in the future.
