Recently, we were asked to examine and service a home generator in North Georgia. The client was experiencing problems with their home generator, and the original dealer of the brand had proposed a very expensive repair. The client’s generator was installed by one of our competitors and was a brand we do not sell. Upon our inspection, we found the original contractor had installed a 35kW generator for the home without pouring a slab. Additionally, due to the slope of the land, the original installers had attempted to level the generator by using blocks under one long side edge. This is a big mistake for several reasons. First, generators of this size should not be installed without a slab. Second, generators of this size have an open bottom, and in this case, it allowed rodents to take up residence inside and destroy the generator. The rodents chewed electrical lines, nested in the rotor/Stator area, and essentially ruined the generator. The generator was not only beyond economical repair, but the rodent infestation made working on it a health hazard.

Our recommendation was to remove the generator, pour a suitable concrete slab and replace it with a superior solution. Our team installed a 35kW Briggs & Stratton Fortress with two 200 AMP Automatic Transfer Switches.
