For our smaller generators, 20kW and under, we strive to complete the installation in one day. This includes site preparation, setting the generator and completing the gas and electric installation. If the job is complex, it may take a little longer.
We are authorized to perform service on everything that we sell. So if you purchase a generator from GenSpring Power, you can count on us to be there to address routine maintenance as well as other repairs should they arise.

All of our generators have a base that supports the generator. When we install a generator system, we include site preparation as part of the installation. The purpose of our site preparation is to ensure a solid, level foundation for the generator and also raise the level of the generator above any surface rain water.
We maintain manufacturer certification for service and warranty on all products we sell. Training is offered online, classroom, as well as on-the-job training. With over 750 service customers, there isn’t much we haven’t seen.

How does a home standby generator system work?
Within seconds of a power outage, the engine will automatically start, allowing your home generator to begin producing power. After a short delay (10 to 60 seconds) the Automatic Transfer Switch will restore power to the designated emergency circuits in your home. The home generator control system will automatically monitor utility power. When the utility power is restored, the Automatic Transfer Switch will safely transfer you back to the utility. The home generator will then go through a short cool down cycle, automatically shut down and then wait for the next event.
With all our quality home generator systems, the electric utility and home generator power are completely isolated. Therefore, you can have total confidence that your generator system is operating safely while the utility linemen are restoring utility power to your home.

How does a home generator produce power?
In the simplest terms, an engine revolves around a magnetic field called a rotor through a stationary coil of wires called a stator. This movement induces an electro-motive force (EMF) into the stator coils. As the magnetic lines of flux cut across the stationary windings, the difference in electrical “potential” is induced into the stator windings. When a complete circuit is formed (by connecting a load to the stator windings) current flow occurs. The current (in amperes) delivered to the load is affected by:
• The number of wire turns in the stator.
• The strength of the magnetic field in the rotor.

Today’s home standby generators are fully automatic, self-contained and built to be permanently installed outside your home. They use an automotive style muffler and sound attenuation to limit sound to as low as the mid 60 db’s. Environmentally friendly natural gas or propane are the fuels of choice. The most popular small automatic home generators range in size from 7 to 20kW.
Several factors should be considered when choosing the site for your home generator: access to the fuel source (natural gas or propane), access to the primary electric service entrance or panel for the home and landscape considerations. Once you know what you want to accomplish with your generator system, there are three approaches: Whole House, Essential Circuits and Majority of Circuits.

Natural Gas Generators
Natural gas is an excellent fuel for a home standby generator system when it is available. Natural gas is safe and reliable since the fuel is delivered to your home through an underground distribution system, and therefore not usually subject to the storm damage that knocks out your electric service. Natural gas generators are always the first choice when natural gas is available. The primary consideration with natural gas is to ensure that your fuel line and gas meter are able to meet the needs of your natural gas generator and other gas appliances.
When natural gas is not available, propane (LP Gas) is the fuel of choice for home standby generators. Propane gas is safe and stored as a liquid in a propane tank. When it is needed, it is pulled as a vapor gas off the upper portion of your tank for your home and your propane generator. Propane service is established by either owning your own tank or renting one from a propane supplier. The advantages of owning your tank is that you can purchase propane from any supplier. If you rent your tank, you are limited to the tank provider. The primary consideration with propane is ensuring an adequately sized tank for storage to meet your expected needs.
